Next year Ultra Music Festival will return to Bayfront Park, where it has spent most of its lifespan.
The future of Ultra Music Festival appeared uncertain after organizers revealed plans to host the 2020 edition of the festival outside Miami. The announcement may have been a power play – but posturing or otherwise, it worked. The Miami City Commission entered into talks to lure the gathering back, culminating in a final July 25th decision to let it return to its longtime home of Bayfront Park.
As with any such deliberation, however, it wasn't without a fight. Commissioner Joe Carollo opposed Ultra's return, as did numerous Downtown Miami residents who spoke throughout the proceedings. In the end, though, Commissioner Manolo Reyes cemented a deal with the festival's organizers that included last-minute changes. Among them were a further reduction in decibel level from 104 to 102, and the discontinuation of the Oasis Stage.
Ultra was inaugurated in 1999, and its first two annual editions took place on Collins Park in Miami Beach. For most of its remaining years it took place at Bayfront – until the Miami City Commission voted down its contract to return in 2019. After a complicated one-off festival in Virginia Key, the festival's organizers had cited a less-than-ideal attendee experience among their reasons for pursuing venues outside the city for its 2020 edition.
The 2020 edition of Ultra Music Festival will take place March 27th-29th. For more information or to purchase tickets, visit the event website.
