Recording of XXXTentacion Admitting to Violent acts Surfaces

Pitchfork uncovered a recording of late rapper XXXTentacion recounting acts of domestic abuse and stabbing.

Trigger warning: domestic abuse, assault.

Four months after XXXTentacion was murdered, an audio clip has found its way to the public that implicates him for his alleged crimes. The rapper (real name Jahseh Onfroy) was arrested in October, 2016 on suspicion of domestic battery by strangulation, witness tampering, and false imprisonment of his then girlfriend, Geneva Ayala. According to the recording, he also stabbed several people.

Pitchfork obtained the 27-minute clip from the Miami-Dade County state attorney’s office. They believe it to have been recorded by one of Onfroy's unnamed acquaintances. In the clip, the rapper can be heard saying:

I put my source of happiness in another person, which was a mistake initially, right? But she fell through on every occasion until now. Until I started fucking her up bruh. I started fucking her up because she made one mistake. And from there, the whole cycle went down. Now she’s scared. That girl is scared for her life. Which I understand.

Later in the recording, Onfroy also refers to a stabbing incident in Florida. “I’m on [Miami] New Times for stabbing," he says. "How many people they put in the news? They said three, it was eight.”

Onfroy had previously pleaded not guilty to his charges and defended his innocence all the way through to his passing. According to the state attorney's office, the tape constitutes a confession on his part in a court of law.

Several XXXTentacion tracks have achieved increased success the Billboard charts since his passing, with "Sad!" peaking at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 eight days after the rapper's passing.
