Terrible news coming in the midst of Burning Man this week, after it was reported that a small plane crashed near the Reno-Stead Airport on Monday afternoon. The Mooney M20C Ranger was carrying three people from the festival in the Black Rock Desert when it collided with a fence near the airport. No reports have been made whether the plane was landing or taking off.
One of the passengers suffered serious injuries. The other two passengers were also taken to the hospital with less severe injuries. The Federal Aviation Administration was on scene investigating the tragic crash.
Burning Man is an annual event in Black Rock City – a temporary city erected in the Black Rock Desert of northwest Nevada. The name stems from the ceremonial burning of a large wooden human structure. It has taken place annually since 1986. The theme for this year's edition of the festival is Metamorphoses, inspired by an 8th-century narrative poem of the same name by Ovid. It is taking place from August 25th to September 2nd, 2019.
