Jon Hopkins releases new psychedelic track, ‘Everything Connected’ [WATCH]

In the liner notes of Ambient 1: Music for Airports — the 1978 sixth studio album from the father of modern ambient music, Brian Eno — Eno claims that ambient music “must be as ignorable as it is interesting.” To the contrary, the English ethereal vanguard Jon Hopkins defies Eno’s edict with meticulously-crafted, moving soundscapes. He’s just released yet another new psychedelic track and music video ahead of his new album, Singularity, and it’s an enthralling transcendence of the unlimited possibilities of what ambient music can be in the modern, hyper-connected world.

Similar to the swirling, transitory essence of “Emerald Rush,” the latest single from the LP, “Everything Connected” and it’s video emulate a circuitous soundscape that coalesces in and out of meditative euphoria.

As the video moves from fractal energy shapes to much more complex molecular bodies, the energy evolves into a sea creature that embodies the circle of life and gives true meaning to Hopkins’ track name. Expectedly, as the video continues, it comes full circle to where it began.

Singularity is set for release on May 4 via Domino. Pre-order it here.
