Halsey Fires Back at Victoria’s Secret Exec for “Lack of Inclusivity”

"…Some comments were made regarding the show that I simply cannot ignore."

Last month, L Brands Chief Executive Officer Ed Razek came under fire for remarks deemed insensitive in regards to casting for the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show. Halsey, who was booked as one of the performing artists at the event, has publicly denounced the company in a statement.

Razek had sparked outrage for telling Vogue that transsexuals were not included since "the show is a fantasy," and that shows for plus-size models had not been popular among viewers. He issued an apology shortly thereafter, but Halsey (real name Ashley Nicolette Frangipane) tweeted a letter of her own condemning the company's practices.

The "New Americana" singer started by sharing that she expected the show to be high point of her year. She then alluded to Razek's remarks, which she said she did not condone. "As a member of the LGBTQ+ community, I have no tolerance for a lack of inclusivity," she wrote. "Especially not one motivated by stereotype."

Halsey, who identifies as bisexual, shared the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show with The Chainsmokers – for whom she delivered the vocal for their 2016 hit single, "Closer." She has also collaborated with electronic music acts like Imagine Dragons and Lido. In addition, her 2018 chart topper "Without Me" was recently remixed by Illenium.

Spokespeople on behalf of Victoria's Secret and L Brands have not publicly responded to Halsey's statement at the time of writing.
