The Chainsmokers took home the award for best dance video
The MTV Video Music Awards 2019 showed an increase in ratings this year with a 6% increase for the 25-54 demographic. According to Billboard, this rise helped make it the most-watched cable TV event of the year, not including sports. With social media engagement raising up to 85% to 269 million, it looks as if the music network is finally getting back to the swing of things.
The night featured top of the line performances from Lizzo, Lil Nas X, and of course, the woman of the night, Missy Elliot. The iconic artist is the first female rapper to ever receive the Video Vanguard Award. She delivered an epic performance of her most famous tracks "The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly), "Throw It Back", "Get Ur Freak On", and the crowd favorite "Work It' which featured a cameo from the original child dancer, Alison Stoner.
The dance category went to The Chainsmokers and Bebe Rexha for "Call You Mine". They beat out Marshmello, David Guetta, DJ Snake, Silk City, and Clean Bandit. Another group from our electronic community, LSD (consisting of Diplo, Sia, and Labrinth) was up for best direction but lost to Lil Nas X's unstoppable "Old Town Road".
The MTV Video Music Awards premiered August 26th and was hosted by comedian Sebastian Maniscalco. Check out the short recap below.
